Delhi lawyers protest Hazare’s detention
August 16th, 2011 - 5:01 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) Lawyers Tuesday organised a half-hour impromptu protest outside the Delhi High Court here against the detention of Gandhian activist Anna Hazare and his supporters, seeking implementation of a strong anti-corruption bill.
“This is the black day of Indian democracy as the government has taken an unconstitutional step to scuttle the peaceful and democratic protest of an innocent person,” said President of the Delhi Bar Association Rajiv Khosla.
Around a hundred lawyers assembled outside the premises of the high court.
“This is most unfortunate that the government has created an emergency-like situation in which a person like Hazare has been denied his constitutional right to protest,” said senior advocate H.S. Phoolka.
Lawyers promised to extend all assistance for the movement.
Hazare and his key aides Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi were detained in New Delhi early Tuesday ahead of their indefinite protest fast.
