Delhi kids make films on capital’s heritage
January 29th, 2010 - 6:39 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) An unusual festival, featuring short films made by 10 to 12-year-old Delhi school kids on the capital’s rich heritage, would be held here Feb 1.
Organised by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), the aim of the festival is to spread awareness about the city’s cultural heritage and the importance of its conservation among the youth, an INTACH official said.
“This is basically a capacity building programme among the children. All the kids are in class 6-7 and have been completely involved in the film making process - right from conceptualising, script writing, shooting and editing,” he said.
The children are from both government and private schools in Delhi like Sanskriti School, Bluebells International and the Modern School.
“While there are around 150 films being made, each of two-three minute duration, we will screen only about 10 in the festival,” the official added.
Films have been made on folklores associated with Delhi, its craft and architectural monuments.
“These films are also a part of the cultural exchange programme. A similar project is run in the UK and the films that the kids there have made are sent to us so that both the countries’ children learn about each other’s culture while appreciating their own,” the official added.
