Delhi jeweller kidnapped in Tamil Nadu
May 4th, 2011 - 1:03 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 3 (IANS) A Delhi-based jeweller, who had gone to Maduari on a business trip, has been kidnapped and the abductors have asked for a Rs.2 crore ransom for his release, police said Wednesday.
Rohit Verma, resident of Sector 15 of Rohini, runs a jewellery shop, Verma Jewellers, at K.N. Katju Marg along with his father.
“He went to Madurai April 29 by a SpiceJet flight to meet some jewellers there,” said a senior police officer.
“Rohit reached Madurai and even informed his family that all was well with him. However, on April 30, his father received a phone call from someone who claimed Rohit had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of Rs.2 crore,” added the officer.
A police team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Karunakaran left for Maduari May 1 to trace the businessman with the help of the local police.
