Delhi holds cycle rally to create awareness about games

New Delhi, Nov 1 (IANS) Nearly 200 students participated in a 15-km-long cycle rally Sunday, organised by the Delhi government to create awareness about the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG).
The CWG awareness cycle rally was flagged off by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit from Rajghat.

“Cycling is not just an environment friendly option but also promotes a healthy way of life. The rally is just a step towards spreading awareness about the commonwealth games,” said Dikshit while speaking on the occasion.

Nearly 200 students from about 15 technical institutions of the national capital participated in the rally organised by Delhi Knowledge Development Foundation under the aegis of Delhi government’s Department of Training and Technical Education (DTTE).

“The rally is in conformance to the objective of XIX Commonwealth Games-2010 to encourage sports development and physical recreation and promote the shared values of integrity, fair play competence, team work, commitment to excellence, respect for gender equality and tolerance,” she added.

The rally commenced from Rajghat and covered Ajmeri Gate, Paharganj, Rani Jhansi Marg, Old Baraf Khana, Tees Hazari, ISBT, Mori Gate, G.P.O., Red Fort and culminated at Rajghat.
