February 5th, 2010 - 2:30 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Feb 5 (IANS) Following in the footsteps of their Supreme Court counterparts, Delhi High Court judges are likely to declare their assets Friday evening. The information will be available on a website.
According to highly placed sources, after the full court meeting held last week, all judges have agreed to declare their assets. The assets will be declared and put on the official website of the Delhi High Court by evening.
Last month, the high court in a landmark judgment held that the office of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) comes within the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) act and details of judges assets should be revealed under that.
The Kerala and Madras High Court judges have already declared their assets. The Allahabad and Delhi High Courts have already passed resolutions to declare their assets.
Emphasising the importance of RTI, the bench in its judgement said: “RTI has an over-reaching impact. Citizens who require such information should not misuse it.”
