New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Thursday gave its nod to the amended parole guidelines submitted by the Delhi government and asked it to implement them right away.
A division bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said that they are satisfied with the amended guidelines and asked the government to forward it to the office of Lt Governor for approval and notify them within six weeks.

“Till the scheme is notified, ensure that these are implemented from now onwards,” said the bench while disposing of the petition.

Under the new guidelines, those who are a threat to national security, involved in sedition or convicted for rape-cum-murder will not be granted parole.

The court had earlier expressed its displeasure over the procedure for granting parole, and said it suspected the powerful and the influential received a preferential treatment in grant of parole.

The previous set of guidelines said if a person is believed to be dangerous for public peace and involved in cases like assault, rioting, mutiny, sedition, cruelty, under the anti-terrorism laws and for possession of explosives or dangerous weapon, committing and so on, he would not be considered for the relief.

The court had, on its own, taken cognizance of a letter written by several prisoners in Tihar Jail complaining that their parole pleas were pending since long.
