New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) In a welcome relief from the sweltering heat of the past days, Delhiites Saturday enjoyed a pleasant and breezy day with rain in the morning as the maximum temperature dipped to 32.4 degrees Celsius, seven notches below average.

While the maximum temperature slipped eight degrees Celsius from Friday’s 40 degrees Celsius, the weatherman forecast more relief from the heat in Delhi in the next 24 hours.

“There is a possibility of a squall or light rain at night. One or two spells of rain are also expected tomorrow (Sunday),” said an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively,” the official added. Humidity Saturday settled at 84 percent.

The maximum temperature of 32.4 degrees Saturday was the second lowest for the month of May in the last five years, after 29 degrees Celsius in May 2008.

The pleasant weather prompted many people to go on outings with their families.

“Finally it rained. It is certainly a respite from the heat and sweaty days of plus 40 degrees temperature since the last one week,” said Jayshri Matharu, a resident of Rohini who came to India Gate to enjoy with her husband and children.

“I hope this stays for another two-three days,” said Matharu.

“It’s not everyday that you have such lovely weather. All my colleagues decided to get out of our air-conditioned office rooms and have some fun together in Connaught Place. And it’s Sunday tomorrow,” said Sahil Grover, a corporate executive working in South Extension, who had special plans for the weekend.
