New Delhi, April 18 (IANS) Delhi High Court Monday pulled up the centre after their failure to comply with its previous directions to ensure that poor people get ration regularly.

Rapping the government, Justice S. Muralidhar sought an explanation for the delay in reply and directed compliance with the court’s order at the earliest.

“This order be personally delivered to the union health secretary and the ministry of health and family welfare through a special messenger within three days for compliance,” said the court.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs.5,000, which shall be given to the petitioner.

The court passed its interim order while hearing a petition filed by west Delhi residents, who had complained about their miseries on account of the denial of ration on various grounds, including unscheduled closure of government’s fair price shops.

The court was however, upset to note that some of the poor people are not getting ration as their plea for renewing their ration card is pending with the authorities.

“This court is unable to understand why ration card- holders whose cards are pending renewal are not being issued ration in the interregnum,” said the court.
