Delhi Couple washed away in Himachal Pradesh river

Shimla, Sep 14 (IANS) A tourist couple from Delhi drowned in the Beas river in the tourist town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh, a senior police official said Sunday. Sumit Ranjan, 32, and Swati Sinha, 27, both residents of Vaishali Extension, Palam Road, Delhi, were clicking photographs near the river, some 300 km from here Saturday when Swati slipped into the river, the police said.

“Sumit jumped into the river to save his wife but both were swept away by the strong current,” Kullu’s superintendent of police Jagat Ram told IANS.

“Despite the warning notice displayed on the banks of the river, the couple went near the river,” Ram said.

The police recovered their bodies and these have been sent for post-mortem examination.
