Delhi cop’s son dies in accident

New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) A 25-year-old son of a senior Delhi Police officer died while five others were injured when their speeding car turned turtle in the national capital, police said Thursday.

The accident took place around 10.30 p.m. Wednesday in north Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area. Vikash Mann, son of Patel Nagar assistant commissioner of police Bhola Ram Mann, and five of his friends were on their way to the Central Market in the area, police said.

“Mann was driving the car at high speed. While overtaking a truck, he lost control and rammed into a divider. The car was bad­ly damaged in the accident,” said a police official.

All the six were rushed to the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital where Vikash was declared dead. Others sustained injuries but were reportedly not critical.

“The injured have been identified as Rahul Kaushik, Pulkit Gupta, Prawesh Dahiya, Kamal Garg and Vaibhav Mittal, all in the age group between 21 and 26. The survivors were found drunk during their medical examination while the autopsy report of Vikash is awaited,” the official said.
