The deceased, identified as Parvinder Jeet Singh, was posted as junior assistant in the audit department of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC).
According to the police, Singh jumped out of a window of the 11th floor around 10 a.m. The NDMC building has 12 floors and is at a stone’s throw from Jantar Mantar in Connaught Place area.
“An eyewitness said he also hit an air conditioner before hitting the ground. A chair and his turban were found near the window, suggesting that he might have removed his turban before climbing the chair to jump out of the window,” said a police official.
Singh, of Krishna Nagar in Devli Khanpur, was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital where he was declared dead by doctors. The police said no suicide note was recovered .
“Our investigations suggest that the deceased was suffering from epilepsy and was undergoing treatment at the RML and the Sir Ganga Ram hospital. In the past few days, his problem had aggravated and was under depression,” said the official.
The police said the body has been sent for autopsy.
Singh is survived by his wife and two children.
