New Delhi, Feb 26 (IANS) A businessman in west Delhi was Tuesday shot at by two unidentified men who went to his house on the pretext of delivering a parcel, the police said. Manoj Kumar, 35, was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital, where the bullet was removed from his ribs. His condition was stated to be stable. Kumar is a senior merchandiser in Gurgaon-based Pearl Global Exports Company.

The police said the assailants rang the door bell of Kumar’s house in Patel Nagar around 6 a.m. Kumar’s sister-in-law Poonam opened the door and the duo, who had a parcel in their hands, asked for Kumar.

“They said an urgent parcel has to be delivered and it could only be handed over to the addressee. I woke Manoj up and he went to the door to pick up the parcel. The duo immediately pumped a bullet into his body and escaped on foot,” Poonam said.

The police said it could be a case of personal or family vendetta and that investigations were underway.

“It could be a business rivalry or something. The family said they shared no enmity with anyone and are unaware of the reason behind the shooting,” a police official said.

A case of attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy was registered against the unknown assailants at the Patel Nagar police station.
