Delhi bound Rajdhani express derails in Bengal
June 16th, 2011 - 12:51 am ICT by IANSKolkata, June 15 (IANS) A major train accident was averted Wednesday after the rear wheels of the engine of a New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express went off the tracks near Burdwan station. No injury or casualty was reported, a railway spokesperson said.
“Two pairs of front wheels of the electric engine of New Delhi bound Rajdhani Express, which left Howrah station today (Wednesday) evening got derailed at Gangpur station near Burdwan Junction station on Shaktigarh-Burdwan section of Eastern Railway’s Howrah Division. Not a single injury or casualty was reported,” said a statement issued by Eastern Railway spokesperson.
“Soon after the incident, ER’s general manager Varun Bharthuar and other senior officials rushed to the site to supervise the re-railment work. Another engine has been sent to the spot for running the train,” said the release.
Train services along three other lines on that section were not affected.
According to a railway official, the train will reach New Delhi over three and half hour behind its schedule time.
