New Delhi, July 17 (IANS) The Delhi Lokayukta Friday asked Jai Bhagwan Aggarwal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators from Rohini, not to have any further construction on allegedly encroached land in that area.
Rajesh Garg, former general secretary of the All India Youth Congress, approached the Lokayukta with a petition stating that Aggarwal had abused his position as a member of the Delhi assembly and illegally occupied a plot of land measuring 650 sq yards, worth Rs.50 crore, at a prime location in sector 7 of Rohini.
Lokayukta is the recommendatory authority to probe corruption among public functionaries.
Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin ordered appointment of a local commissioner to inspect the site to ascertain the facts and also asked Garg to file a rejoinder to the reply filed by the BJP leader while fixing the matter for Aug 3.
He also asked Aggarwal to be present during the next hearing.
In his complaint, Garg has said that to retain the possession of land, which had been acquired by the government for constructing low-income group (LIG) flats under a scheme, Aggarwal has illegally constructed a temple there to take advantage of religious sentiments of the residents in the area.
However, Aggarwal’s advocate said Garg was making “baseless allegations” against his client due to political vendetta.
