Deepa’s quality of work surprises husband Ketan Mehta
September 12th, 2011 - 8:31 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Sep 12 (IANS) Actress Deepa Sahi is making her directorial debut with “Tere Mere Phere” and her filmmaker husband Ketan Mehta is impressed with the quality of work she has brought out in her first film.
“Deepa is incredible in handling actors. The script and the dialogues are also written by her, so everything is absolutely fabulous. I’m quite delighted and wonderfully surprised with the quality of work. It doesn’t seem like her first film at all,” Mehta told IANS in an interview.
A comical take on the contemporary idea of love and marriage, “Tere Mere Phere” has been co-produced by Mehta and devotional singer-turned-producer Anup Jalota. The film is releasing Sep 30.
“Deepa has been the producer of my last four films. Early last year she came up to me and said now you will have the honour of producing my next film. So there was a curious role reversal that was happening.
“We had a script reading session. People who read the script, found it very fascinating and so the decision was taken to make the film. It’s a hilarious film, very bright, modern and I hope and believe that it will reach out to a very large audience, said Mehta, who has made films like “Mirch Masala”, “Hero Hiralal”, “Maya Memsaab”, “Sardar” and “Mangal Pandey: The Rising” among others.
The film stars Vinay Pathak and Riya Sen along with newcomers Jagrat Desai and Sasha Goradia.
When asked about the selection of the cast, Mehta said that it was Deepa’s call.
“The director has the final say in casting for a film, so it was entirely Deepa’s choice. Vinay is an absolutely brilliant actor. He is versatile and he is extremely talented. By now, Vinay is already a brand. He is so popular all over India. He has been a very dear friend for a very long time now, so no questions were asked when it was decided to take Vinay in the film,” said the filmmaker.
“The new cast was completely discovered by Deepa after a lot of screen tests and trials and they have done a phenomenal job,” Mehta added.
