Deepak tops among Super Bikes
July 2nd, 2011 - 7:32 pm ICT by IANSCoimbatore, July 2 (IANS) Deepak Ravikumar of Preethi Racing took the honours in the premium Group A Super Bikes (600cc) class after favourite Krishnan Rajini crashed in the second lap of the MRF-FMSCI National Motorcycle Racing Championship at the Kari Motor Speedway here Saturday.
The experienced Rajini (Moto-Rev India), riding a Yamaha R6, slid off the track on entering Turn-1 when the gear failed to engage and went into neutral.
Rajini’s off provided an excellent opportunity for the 23-year-old Deepak who went on to comfortably win the 10-lap race from M Gautham (Moto-Rev India).
“I had problems with the clutch and when I went into the first corner, the gear fell into neutral and there was nothing I could do.
“Obviously I am disappointed, but it happens in racing. I was on a stock bike unlike others who were riding a pro-machine,” said Rajini who fortunately escaped unhurt and has a chance to make amends on Sunday when the second race would be run.
Deepak, however, had a disastrous outing in the Group B (Open, 165cc) race as he crashed when running third while TVS Racing’s K Jagan led from start to finish for a deserving victory.
The day was marred by a series of crashes, but none of the riders suffered major injuries. The event concludes on Sunday when the second race in all the categories would be run.
