Bhubaneswar, June 16 (IANS) The depression formed over north Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression and moved northward, crossing the West Bengal coast Thursday evening, a weather official here said.

The system is likely to move in north-north-westerly direction initially and then west by north-west, weakening gradually during the next one day, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

As a result, rain would occur at most places over Orissa during next 24 hours and heavy to very heavy fall at some places with extremely heavy rainfall of more than 25 cm at few places in the state, he said.

The fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea as sea condition remained rough to very rough, he said adding all state ports have been asked to keep local cautionary signal No.3 hoisted.

Strong and squally surface wind from north-westerly direction with speed reaching 45-55 km per hour also likely to occur along and off state coast, he said.
