Decision for CBI probe delayed, says Sachan’s brother
July 13th, 2011 - 10:55 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, July 13 (IANS) The family of deputy chief medical officer (CMO) Y.S. Sachan said here Wednesday that the state government’s decision to recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death was “a delayed one”, but “hoped the truth would now emerge”.
“Though to an extent we are satisfied with the move taken by the state government, it’s a delayed decision. It would have been better had the government recommended the CBI inquiry just after his death inside Lucknow jail,” R.K. Sachan, brother of the deputy CMO, told reporters here.
“We had always wanted a CBI inquiry into the matter as we believed he (Sachan) was killed in the jail. Now, with the investigations being transferred to CBI, we hope the truth would come out and the culprits would be nabbed,” added R.K. Sachan, who refused to comment further on the issue.
A day before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court was to pronounce its judgment on a plea by journalist Sachidanand Gupta for a CBI probe, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati announced her decision to hand over the probe to the CBI.
Y.S. Sachan was found dead in Lucknow district jail hospital on June 22. Sachan’s family had moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe.
