- Agra, Oct 22 (IANS) A day after an accident involving two trains killed 23 people in Mathura, the railways Thursday had cleared the track and traffic movement was restored, officials said.
North Central Zone Divisional Manager R.M. Tripathi said: “Two things are evident. One, the driver of the Goa Express did not keep to the speed limit of 10 km per hour. He either ignored the signal or there was some defect in the signal system which probably showed red instead of green or vice versa.
“These are issues which the inquiry instituted will decide. Also it is clear that there was chain pulling in the ill-fated Mewar Express which had abruptly stopped. Had the train not stopped there would not have been any accident of this nature,” Tripathi said.
Meanwhile, three Rajasthan police constables have been suspended for negligence. Munna Sajid, a criminal being brought from Kota, had pulled the chain and disappeared, police sources said.
