Dasmunsi to request Star TV not to air soap on Aarushi

New Delhi, June 10 (IANS) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi Tuesday assured a child rights panel that he would request Star TV not to air a serial based on the story of teenaged Aarushi Talwar’s murder and said the channel should “not make business out of the issue”. The assurance was given by the minister during his meeting with Sandhya Bajaj, a member of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Bajaj, who met Dasmunsi for 10 minutes in his office, urged him to stop Balaji Telefilms from making a serial on Aarushi.
“He has assured us all help and was concerned over the matter. He said that the channel should not make business out of the issue. He promised to request the channel (Star TV) not to air the serial,” Bajaj told IANS after meeting the minister.
She said the panel had issued a notice to Balaji Telefilms Tuesday following the plea of Aarushi’s mother that Balaji Telefilms should be stopped from making a soap opera on her slain daughter.
Aarushi was found killed at her Noida residence May 16. While the police initially suspected missing domestic help Hemraj, his body was found on the terrace of Talwars’ flat the next day.
Her father Rajesh Talwar, a prominent dentist, has been arrested as a suspect. The Noida police initially cast aspersions on his character and even on Aarushi, which invited condemnation from many, including Chowdhury.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now investigating the case.
In her plea, Nupur had said: “We have lost our child and now they (Balaji Telefilms) are planning to show her life on television. It would affect the case. How can they earn from our tragedy?!”
“Balaji Telefilms is taking an undue advantage of the publicity of this case. They have now claimed on record that they will incorporate the Aarushi killing as part of the popular daily soap ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii’. They plan to glorify the concept of honour killing, a thought which is absolutely abhorrent to any educated person.”
