Dalit woman burnt alive in Madhya Pradesh
May 27th, 2010 - 11:45 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, May 27 (IANS) A Dalit woman, set on fire by two people in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, died at a hospital in Gwalior Thursday, police said.
The woman, Krantibai, was living with Raghuveer Gurjar in Padora village in the district after leaving her husband a few years ago.
“Raghuveer Wednesday demanded some money from her for liquor. When Krantibai refused, he and his brother doused her with kerosene and set her on fire,” Shivpuri Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad said.
“Krantibai was immediately rushed to Gwalior for treatment in a severely burnt condition. She died Thursday morning. She said in a dying declaration that she was burnt by Raghuveer and one more person,” Prasad said.
The police have registered a case against the two men who are now on the run.
