Czechs beat Poland 1-0 to make quarters
June 17th, 2012 - 3:47 am ICT by IANSWroclaw (Poland), June 17 (IANS/RIA Novosti) The Czech Republic advanced to the knockout stage of Euro 2012 and eliminated Poland as Petr Jiracek’s second-half strike secured a deserved 1-0 win over the co-hosts.
Jiracek took a lay-off from Milan Baros, rounded a defender and slipped the ball coolly into the far corner to bring the lively Czechs victory over a lethargic Polish side.
The result, combined with Russia’s surprise 1-0 defeat to Greece, sends the Czechs through as Group A winners with the Greeks joining them in second place.
