CWG scam: CBI may seek extradition of London businessman
April 25th, 2011 - 10:38 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 25 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) might seek extradition of Ashish Patel, the London-based owner of AM Films and AM Car, if he denies disclosing crucial information regarding the Commonwealth Games’ Queen Baton Relay deal, officials said Monday.
A two-member team of CBI officials met Patel twice in London to gather details on the deals concluded by the CWG Organising Committee (OC) for the relay.
“We have asked Scotland Yard to gather all the documents and information required by us and send them via their reply to our two Letters Rogatories …. as we cannot arrest him there in England if he denies disclosing the information, we would go ahead with extradition process,” CBI officials said.
The CBI officials further said that in their meeting with Patel, they explained to him in detail about the alleged irregularities in awarding the two contracts to him and his role in it.
Patel had sold film equipment and rented out cars, ambulances, portable toilets and other material for the ceremony held in London.
The agency has given a detailed list of the documents they require to the British authorities.
According to CBI officials, among the documents that the probe agency has sought are those related to suspicious banking transactions.
