New Delhi, July 30 (IANS) Noting that completion of Commonwealth Games (CWG) projects were more important and it should not be politicised, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit Friday refused to comment on the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) pointing to corruption and cost overruns in the projects.
Emerging out of a meeting to review the CWG projects, Dikshit said, “There is no need to panic over the timely completion of Games projects as we will stick to the deadlines.”
She also said that faults, if any, will be taken care of once the Games are over.
The chief minister has set a deadline of Aug 10 to clear debris and litter from the roads and Aug 31 to complete all the major works related to the Games.
“We have already cleared 16,000 tonnes of debris from the roads within a span of 14 days and all the agencies have been directed to complete the work by Aug 10,” she added.
About the meeting, she said it is required on a weekly basis for better co-ordination and to sort out problems if any.
“We have been weekly monitoring all the agencies involved in the construction and ensuring their co-ordination. We are keeping September for giving finishing touches of the major projects,” she said.
Pressed further to comment on the CVC findings she said: “No comments, I don’t know”.
The chief minister said that even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed confidence that Delhi will host the best games ever.
the Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be held Oct 3-14. At least 16 games projects are under scanner of the vigilance body for suspected financial irregularities.
