‘Customers’ loot jewellery shop in Delhi

New Delhi, May 15 (IANS) Two people entered a jewellery shop in north Delhi in the guise of customers and fled with a large booty after holding the owner’s brother at gun point Sunday, police said.

The incident took place in Rohini Sector 8 at around 3 p.m. when Jitendra Malhotra, brother of shop owner Surendra Malhotra, was minding the shop.

“Posing as customers, two men entered the shop and started talking to Jitendra. Suddenly, one of them fished out a gun and trained it at Malhotra and attacked him with a sharp-edged object. They then looted the shop and fled,” said a police officer.

“While escaping on a motorcycle, they crashed into a car and fell down with the looted jewllery. They managed to flee with the help of associates who were on other
motorcycles. But they left some of the looted jewellery on the ground,” added the officer.

Police said Jitendra, who sustained a leg injury, is recovering. The amount of the looted jewllery has not been calculated yet.

“We have recovered a damaged motorcycle which was used in the commission of crime. We have also received 11 gold chains and 2 ear rings the robbers have dropped,” said the officer.

“We are investigating the case and the hunt is on for the robbers,” added the officer.
