Havana, Oct 28 (IANS) China and Cuba have pledged to take forward their bilateral ties and promote cooperation between their militaries.

The affirmation came Thursday during a meeting between Cuban President Raul Castro and Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, Xinhua reported.

They exchanged views on international issues of common concern, an official release said.

The Cuban leader said Guo’s visit was of great significance and would enhance bilateral ties.

While congratulating China on the remarkable achievements it had made in social and economic development, Castro expressed the hope that both sides would join hands and strengthen exchanges and cooperation to lift bilateral relations to a new high.

On his part, Guo noted that Cuba was playing an increasingly important role in international affairs and had made positive contributions to world peace and development.

China always sees Cuba as a trustworthy friend, said Guo, adding that China is willing to work together with Cuba to push forward their bilateral relationship.

Guo arrived here Tuesday for a five-day visit.

Guo, who is on a three-nation Latin America tour, will also visit Colombia and Peru.
