July 14th, 2009 - 1:22 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, July 14 (IANS) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper shot dead his colleague before shooting himself, police here said.
Constable Manjeet killed his colleague Manoj Pukhan inside the Sanat Nagar CRPF camp and then shot himself Monday night.
“Manjeet has been admitted to hospital. He is in a critical condition,” a police officer said.
Fratricidal shootouts have taken place many times among security forces deployed in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 20 years.
Hostile environment, continued separation from family, lack of recreational facilities and long working hours have been cited as the reasons by counsellors engaged to address the problem.
