CRPF trooper killed in Maoist attack
September 18th, 2011 - 10:54 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Sep 18 (IANS) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper was killed Sunday in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, police said.
Shivnath was killed when Maoists carried out a flash attack on a 60-member contingent of the CRPF’s 168th Battalion at Murtanda village in Bijapur district, about 500 km south of Raipur.
According to the police headquarters here, Maoists could have inflicted more casualties but the CRPF men retaliated and forced the guerrillas to retreat for cover in the dense jungle.
Bijapur district, with Bastar, Dantewada, Narayanpur and Kanker, makes up the sprawling 40,000 sq km Bastar region, which is a hotbed of the Maoists since late the 1980s.
