CRPF trooper held for extortion
March 17th, 2010 - 5:56 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Bhubaneswar, March 17 (IANS) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper was arrested here Wednesday for extorting money from a businessman after posing as a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer.
Hemant Kumar Barik was caught red handed while taking Rs.1 lakh, part of the Rs.5 crore he had demanded from a businessman.
“We have arrested him while taking Rs.1 lakh. He had demanded Rs.5 crore from the businessman. He was extorting money assuring the businessman of clearing some tax cases,” Additional Superintendent of CBI P.K. Panigrahi said.
According to police, Barik is from Orissa’s Balasore district and is a CRPF trooper in Kolkata.
