Cristina Fernandez re-elected president of Argentina
October 24th, 2011 - 11:56 am ICT by IANSBuenos Aires, Oct 24 (IANS) Cristina Fernandez has been re-elected president of Argentine with nearly 53 percent of the votes, officials said.
Fernandez got 52.81 percent of the votes in Sunday’s general elections, while the other six candidates received less than 47 percent of the votes in all, according to officials from the National Office of the Electoral Processes.
Hermes Binner, a provincial governor deemed as the incumbent’s closest rival, received 17.18 percent of the votes, reported Xinhua.
Among Argentina’s population of 40.1 million people, 28.9 million were registered as eligible voters in the elections.
