Criminal wanted in 17 cases arrested
March 16th, 2011 - 10:36 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 16 (IANS) A 34-year-old man on the run for over two years and wanted in 17 cases, including for murder and robbery, was arrested in the national capital, police said Wednesday.
According to police, Ajay was a member of the Goga gang active in many states and carried a reward of Rs.20,000 for information leading to his capture.
Ajay was arrested Tuesday evening near Sultanpuri bus terminal.
“He tried to fire at the police in an attempt to flee. But the policemen overpowered him,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District) Chhaya Sharma.
According to police, Ajay hails from Muzzaffar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. He came to Delhi in 1984 and met Joginder in 1997. They then formed their own gang.
“He along with his associates has committed daylight house robberies at gunpoint and did not hesitate to open fire at hostages or police,” said Sharma.
A .315 bore locally-made pistol, two live cartridges and a motorcycle were recovered from his possession.
