Criminal shot dead in Uttar Pradesh

- Lucknow, Nov 8 (IANS) A criminal, wanted in several cases of murder and loot in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar and surrounding districts, was shot dead by police in a gun battle late Saturday night, police said Sunday.
Police had announced a reward of Rs.5,000 for Imran’s arrest.
“We got information about his movement, along with some of his accomplices, in our locality and a team of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the local police laid a trap,” Inspector A.K. Tyagi of Shahpur police station told IANS over phone.
On being challenged, Imran opened fire at the police party. Police retaliated, killing him. However, his five accomplices managed to escape.
“A country made pistol and some live cartridges were recovered from the spot and we are looking for his five accomplices, who escaped,” Tyagi said.
