Criminal complaint filed against Punjabi pop singer
March 10th, 2009 - 8:42 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, March 10 (IANS) A criminal case was filed against Punjabi pop singer Mika Tuesday in a Chandigarh court, charging him with obscenity during a performance in the Panjab University (PU).
NGO Global Human Rights Council (GHRC) filed the complaint against Mika, brother of famous singer Daler Mehndi, for allegedly passing lewd remarks and for making indecent gestures at girls while performing at a star night in the university campus here Saturday.
“We have filed a criminal complaint against Mika as he has maligned the dignity of an educational institution. The court has admitted the complaint,” Arvind Thakur, president of GHRC told IANS Tuesday.
The evidence will be recorded March 12, he said.
“We want Mika to publicly apologise for his misdeeds,” Thakur said.
Various students’ organisations of PU have also submitted complaints to the PU vice-chancellor and the dean (students’ welfare) and demanded strict action against the singer.
