Criminal burnt to death in Uttar Pradesh
December 1st, 2009 - 8:46 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Lucknow, Dec 1 (IANS) A man who had over a dozen criminal cases against him was beaten and burnt to death by locals in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, officials said Tuesday.
The incident took place in the Biswaan locality of Sitapur Monday night when the deceased, Shailendra Verma, went to the house of Kirtarilal.
“Kirtarilal is the village watchman in the Parsadi Khurd village of Biswaan locality and on Monday evening, he had a dispute with Verma. Later in the night, Verma reached Kirtarilal’s house and assaulted his son Munnulal. However, hearing the cries, Kirtarilal reached there and surrounded Verma along with other locals,” inspector Veer Singh of Biswaan police station told IANS over phone.
“After thrashing Verma severely, the mob put him on dry grass and after pouring diesel, set him on fire,” Singh added.
“By the time we reached the spot, Verma was dead,” he said.
Verma had over a dozen criminal cases against him including those of rape, attempt to murder in Sitapur and other neighbouring districts.
“We have arrested Munnulal as he was the only named accused in the FIR registered by Verma’s wife Neelam. The matter is being probed and more arrests are possible,” Singh added.
