Allahabad, Oct 12 (IANS) The police raided a storehouse in this Uttar Pradesh city and recovered fire crackers worth over Rs.1 crore which had been stocked illegally, officials said Monday.
The recovery was made by the special operation group late Sunday night from a storehouse in the Naini locality in the trans-Yamuna area of Allahabad.

“Based on information we raided the godown and recovered the fire crackers. The quantity is so huge that over a dozen trucks could be filled,” inspector S.K. Singh said.

The stock consists of crackers manufactured mostly in Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu and it appears that they were illegally stocked to be sold before the Diwali festival, police said.

“No arrests have been made yet and we are searching for the owner of the godown,” Singh added.
