CPI-M using police to manipulate voters: Mamata

Midnapore (West Bengal), May 5 (IANS) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Thursday accused the ruling Marxists of using police to terrorise voters in Maoist-affected areas of West Bengal.
Banerjee alleged that officers in charge of Salboni and Kotwali police stations in West Midnapore district were working as agents of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
“The officers in charge of Salboni and Kotwali police stations are acting as agents of CPI-M, they are not allowing us to conduct any rallies in the area. They are terrorising the voters and trying to coerce them to vote in favour of the CPI-M.
“They should be immediately removed,” said Banerjee while addressing a rally in this headquarter town of West Midnapore district.
Banerjee claimed with polling over in four phases in 242 of the 294-seat state assembly, her party has already won the required majority.
“If I understand the pulse of the people then we have already been voted to power. But I would appeal to the masses of West Midnapore to vote in our favour and give us a chance,” she said.
The six-phase polls began April 18 and will end May 10. While 38 constituencies will go to the hustings May 7, 14 seats will vote May 10. Vote count is on May 13.
