New Delhi, Oct 5 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Sunday “in principle” decided to cooperate in Andhra Pradesh. The decision was taken at a meeting here between TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao and CPI-M leaders Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury.
“The TRS in principle agreed to cooperate with the CPI-M in Andhra Pradesh,” Rao said after his meeting with the CPI-M leaders.
In what manner the cooperation to be worked out will be discussed later, he added.
The leaders also discussed the political situation in Andhra Pradesh after film star Chiranjeevi launched his political outfit Praja Rajyam in August.
“Now we are trying to form a non-Congress, non-BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) alliance in the state and we have started discussions,” CPI-M leader Yechury told mediapersons.
The TRS chief, who is fighting for a separate Telangana state, requested the CPI-M leaders to tone down their opposition to a separate state.
The CPI-M has been consistently opposed to division of states, saying formation of small states would weaken the federal system of the country.
