CPI-M seeks probe into Trinamool ‘black money’

Kolkata, April 20 (IANS) Reiterating the charge that the Trinamool Congress was using ‘black money’ for its election campaign, West Bengal’s ruling Left Front chairman Biman Bose Wednesday claimed each Trinamool candidate had been given Rs.21 lakhs to campaign.
“From our sources in different areas we have come to know that each of the candidates has been paid Rs.21 lakh,” Bose told reporters.
“Moreover, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee is hovering across the state on a chopper for the past few days. Crores of rupees are needed for hiring a chopper for a day. From where they got this huge amount of money,” he asked at a meet the press programme organised by the Kolkata Press Club.
Claiming that such huge amounts of money has never been spent in any assembly polls in the state, Bose asked the Election Commission to “probe the matter”.
“Recently, a Trinamool MP was found traveling from Delhi to Guwahati with cash over Rs.57 lakhs. He reportedly told the interrogators that the money belonged to his business house.”
He also claimed that his party - the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) was the only party which submits all election related expenditure in toto to the Election Commission after every election.
“The expenditure limit for each candidate in assembly elections is Rs.15 lakh but our candidates spend much less,” said Bose.
Bose was, however, confident that Left Front would retain power after the assembly elections.
