New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) The politburo of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) met here Thursday to discuss current political developments including price rise and the 2G spectrum scam.
Party sources said the meeting would discuss ideological issues in view of the party’s performance in the assembly polls in West Bengal and the last Lok Sabha elections.
While the party has lost power in its strongholds of West Bengal and Kerala, its tally in the Lok Sabha plunged from 43 in the 2004 elections to 16 in the 2009 polls.
Party sources said the two-day politburo meeting, which ends Friday, would also discuss 2G spectrum scam and price rise.
The party has already demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the role of Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum allocation.
The party has said that the note submitted by the finance ministry to the prime minister’s office in March 2011 has shown authoritatively that Chidambaram, who was then finance minister, had cleared the allotment of licences for 2G spectrum in 2008 at the 2001 entry fee, even though the finance secretary and the ministry had pointed to the need for revision of the fee.
The party is expected to slam the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government on rising food prices.
According to data released by the government Thursday, food inflation jumped to 9.13 percent for the week ended Sep 17 from 8.84 percent in the previous week.
