CPI-M activist killed in Lalgarh
January 3rd, 2010 - 2:50 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Jan 3 (IANS) A CPI-M activist was killed by suspected Maoists in strife-torn West Midnapore district of West Bengal, a police official said Sunday.
“Jhontu Patra was called by a group of unidentified miscreants last (Saturday) night and later killed. His body was found this morning near Bamal in the Lalgarh belt,” he said.
The officials said that the CPI-M activist was killed by the leftwing ultras as they suspected him of being a police informer.
On Saturday, at least two suspected Maoists were killed and one injured in a gun battle with the police in Lalgarh.
Maoist rebels are active in three western districts of the state - Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore.
