Court upholds life term to man for killing woman
August 25th, 2009 - 11:08 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Tuesday sentenced a man who had killed a woman after she rebuked him for making indecent remarks to her.
A division bench comprising of Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Indermeet Kaur upheld the life imprisonment of Rashid Khan who had stabbed Kali, wife of his neighbour Rajinder Singh, in 1997.
The court said : “The law of circumstantial evidence does not require the existence of a number of circumstances as an essential. A single circumstance can be of a nature where from a reasonable and a logical mind, without any hesitation, one would draw a conclusion of guilt.”
The court, while upholding his conviction and sentence by a trial court, relied on the testimony of witnesses who had said that Khan used to make indecent remarks to Kali, following which she had rebuked him and they had a fight.
The court turned down Khan’s plea, saying minor doubts not having a bearing upon a fact in the issue are irrelevant and have to be ignored.
