Court summons Bisleri head for bottling plant accident
July 26th, 2009 - 2:22 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) A top executive of reputed mineral water firm Bisleri has been summoned by Delhi High Court Monday to explain why an employee who lost his right hand in an accident in the bottling plant should not be given Rs.5 million as compensation.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah has asked Bisleri director Ramesh Chauhan to appear before the court Monday, acting on a lawsuit filed by his employee Lal Bahadur.
Bahadur, 41, approached the court challenging the judgment by its single judge bench, which had earlier ordered Bisleri to continue paying the victim his salary of Rs.4,000 a month unto death.
The court has also stipulated the company not to reduce the victim’s salary.
But the man approached the division bench as he was not satisfied with the judgment of the single bench and has demanded Rs.5 million as compensation.
Bahadur was working in Bisleri’s bottling plant in Punjabi Bagh in west Delhi when his hand got stuck in a machine last year.
“His hand was badly crushed and he was immediately rushed to ESI hospital in the area. Few days later his hand was amputated despite Bahadur’s refusal. The company did not even pay for his medical expenses. It’s a case of gross negligence on behalf of the hospital and Bisleri,” his lawyer Manohar Singh Bakshi told IANS.
The court has also issued notice to the Delhi government, Delhi Police, the civic authority and the hospital in the case, Bakshi said.
