January 20th, 2012 - 5:42 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Chennai, Jan 20 (IANS) The Madras High Court Friday stayed the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to convert the new assembly complex into a multi-speciality hospital.
Hearing a public interest litigation filed against the conversion, the court ordered an interim stay till the state government receives the no objection certificate (NOC) from the union environment ministry as it is mandatory.
The court also directed the state government not to carry out any activity to convert the assembly complex into a hospital.
The new assembly complex was built during the previous DMK regime. Soon after the AIADMK come to power last May, the state government shifted the assembly complex back to its old home at Fort St. George here and announced its decision to convert the new complex into a hospital.
