Chandigarh, Oct 26 (IANS) Acting on a contempt of court petition, Punjab and Haryana High Court Monday sought an explanation from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Amritsar, Anil Joshi, for allegedly creating obstacles in the implementation of the court’s orders.
The petition was filed in the court Oct 24, by a civil rights group, Lawyers for Social Action, against the legislator and senior Amritsar Municipal Corporation (MC) official D.P.S. Kharbanda.
Justice Nawab Singh Monday sought a response from the two before the case’s next hearing, slated Nov 25.
“The Amritsar legislator had committed contempt of the high court by creating obstacles in the removal of hoardings and interfering in the police administration. He also resorted to coercive methods for the transfer of the senior superintendent of police,” the group’s secretary Kamal Anand told IANS.
Kharbanda also had committed the contempt of court by not removing the hoardings, which was his duty as per the court’s directions, the group said.
Besides, the court also said that all the signboards hoardings, neon sign boards, advertisement boards, facing the highway, main road and the side roads/lanes should be removed within a month.
