Court reserves order on Vikas Yadav’s bail plea
October 22nd, 2009 - 8:40 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Thursday reserved its order on the bail plea of Vikas Yadav, serving life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara in 2002. He has sought bail to attend his sister’s marriage.
A division bench comprising Justices Anil Kumar and Vipin Sanghi reserved the order after hearing Delhi Police’s contention that Vikas might escape if allowed to be paroled from jail.
Vikas has approached court seeking permission to attend his sister Bharti’s marriage on Nov 1.
“There would be more than 2,000 people attending the marriage and the ceremony is spread over three states of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. We have serious apprehension that he might escape from the place as it would be difficult for us to keep an eye on each visitor,” the Delhi Police told the bench.
The Delhi Police counsel further added: “We do not know who are the people attending the marriage, and a section of them might take him away even when the convict is released on custodial parole. We can’t control and put restrictions on their events.”
Meanwhile, Neelam Katara, mother of Nitish Katara, submitted an application to the court apprehending that her life would be in danger if Vikas comes out of jail and also cited his earlier background when he was involved in the Jessica Lal murder case.
Vikas Yadav, son of Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav, was convicted last year along with his cousin Vishal Yadav for kidnapping and murdering Nitish Katara, a close friend of Bharti. He is presently undergoing life imprisonment.
The duo had kidnapped and killed Katara, son of an IAS officer, on the night of Feb 17, 2002, after abducting him from a marriage party in Ghaziabad as they were opposed to his relationship with Bharti.
