July 9th, 2009 - 10:16 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) Delhi High Court Thursday reserved its order on the plea of Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) seeking elimination of child labour from the Capital.
Submitting a composite scheme for abolition of child labour in the national capital territory, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) told the division bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice Manmohan that an employer of child labour should be fined Rs.20,000.
According the proposed scheme, a steering committee should be set up in each district in which the deputy labour commissioner, district-level health officer, the deputy commissioner of police of the area concerned along with one representative from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) would be the members of the committee.
Accepting the draft scheme of NCPCR, the bench said it would pass a detailed order after approving the scheme.
The court was hearing a public interest petition filed by BBA seeking its direction to take appropriate steps to abolish child labour in the city.
BBA’s counsel H.S. Phoolka, said: “A loud and clear message should go to the employers that they would be facing prosecution under the most strict laws with an immediate recovery of fine of Rs.20,000.”
