Court rejects Jagan aide’s plea for laptop in jail (Lead)
February 15th, 2012 - 6:56 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Feb 15 (IANS) The Andhra Pradesh High Court Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by Vijay Sai Reddy, a jailed aide of YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, to allow him to use his laptop in prison.
Vijay Sai Reddy, who is in jail in a case related to Jaganmohan’s alleged illegal assets, approached the high court after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court rejected his petition.
Vijay Sai Reddy had sought the court’s permission for a laptop in jail as he was an auditor for many firms. By using his laptop, he wanted to complete his pending tasks of giving financial advice to companies.
The court dismissed the petition on the ground that the laptop could be used by the accused to be in touch with the outside world.
The CBI counsel opposed the plea, saying Vijay Sai Reddy might influence the witnesses and tamper with the evidence by using the laptop.
Vijay Sai Reddy, who is the vice-president of Jagati Publications Pvt. Ltd. (JPPL) owned by Jaganmohan, is the only person arrested by the CBI so far in the MP’s assets case.
The court adjourned the hearing on the petition of Vijay Raghav, an official of Emaar-MGF, seeking the quashing of proceedings against him in a case related to Emaar-APIIC township case.
The high court directed the CBI to file a counter on Vijay Raghav’s plea and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
In another development, the CBI special court extended the judicial custody of all the accused in the Emaar case. The custody of Vijay Raghav, Indian Administrative Service officer B.P. Acharya and Sunil Reddy, an aide of Jagan, was extended till Feb 22. The custody of industrialist Koneru Prasad was extended till Feb 17.
All the accused are currently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail.
