Court questions Kingfisher Airlines for sacking employee
September 29th, 2011 - 8:37 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Thursday sought a reply from Kingfisher Airlines for sacking an employee here on the basis of a police claim that he harboured his younger brother suspected to be involved in a murder in Uttar Pradesh.
Mohammed Taufeeq, a senior security service manager with the airlines, was sacked Sep 21 after Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police wrote to the Kingfisher management explaining how the official allegedly sheltered his brother Mally.
Mally allegedly kidnapped Alka Pandey, wife of a colonel of the Indian Army, from Allahabad and murdered her. The victim’s body was recovered in Rae Bareli Sep 24, a week after she went missing.
Taufeeq approached the court seeking direction to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police for withdrawing false charges against him. He also sought his reinstatement in the airlines.
Justice Mukta Gupta issued notices to the Delhi Police chief, the Uttar Pradesh Police director general, deputy inspector general of police, Allahabad, and Kingfisher Airlines seeking their responses by Jan 3, 2012.
The petitioner said his dismissal by the airlines was not in accordance with law.
Police said that Mally was lodged in the Allahabad jail a couple of years ago. During that time he met Alka, who had gone to the jail to meet a relative.
“While Alka was visiting the Allahabad jail, she fell in love with Mally. Their affair continued for over a year. Due to some reason, they broke up later,” said Taufeeq’s advocate V.K. Shukla.
After Mally was freed from jail, the two continued to meet each other, he said.
Shukla said while police were investigating Alka’s killing, neighbours told them that they saw her with Mally on many occasions.
Uttar Pradesh Police found Mally’s mobile phone to be active near Delhi airport and sought help from Delhi Police to trace him.
Shukla said that his client had only arranged plane tickets for his younger brother.
He said that police took Taufeeq to the police station at Delhi airport and told him about the incident. He called Mally there and handed him over to police.
