Court questions government on plea to help jail inmates
June 1st, 2011 - 9:46 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 1 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notice to the central and Delhi governments and the Tihar Jail chief on a plea demanding changes in parole rules and other provisions to protect the fundamental rights of prisoners.
The public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by counsel representing Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, an accused in the second generation (2G) spectrum allocation scam and now lodged in Tihar Jail.
The division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna issued notice to all the three respondents seeking their replies by Aug 24.
