Court poses tough questions to Vikas Yadav on bail plea
October 20th, 2009 - 10:04 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Delhi High Court Tuesday posed some tough questions to Vikas Yadav, undergoing life imprisonment for the murder of Nitish Katara who allegedly had a relationship with his sister Bharti, while hearing his plea for interim bail to attend her marriage.
A division bench comprising of Justices Anil Kumar and Vipin Sanghi said: “You were earlier released on bail and you got involved in crime. You were involved in another murder case and your bail was cancelled,” hinting at his involvement in Jessica Lal murder case.
“Is your conduct, while out on bail, not relevant? You absconded on two occasions,” the bench said.
Yadav had sought bail to attend Bharti’s wedding Nov 1 and perform the rituals as her elder brother.
The police, however, opposed the bail plea and sought two days time to verify the place and timing of Bharti’s marriage.
After hearing the police’s contention, the bench posted the matter for further hearing on Oct 22.
Yadav, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav, was convicted last year along with his cousin Vishal Yadav for kidnapping and murdering Katara, a close friend of Bharti.
The duo had kidnapped and killed Katara, son of an IAS officer, on the night of Feb 17, 2002 after abducting him from a marriage party in Ghaziabad as they were against the relationship between him and Bharti.
